One of the main UFC stars today, Ronda Rousey “disappeared” from the media in the months following his surprising defeat to Holly holm, in November last year. The fighter stayed away from the spotlight and only returned to giving interviews later. The former champion’s explanation for this is simple: she wanted to distance herself from “evil internet fans”.

The American fighter criticized the lack of sensitivity among internet users, which even made her reduce her use of her social networks. “To be honest, I tried to disappear as much as possible. I don't read articles, I don't see comments. People on the internet are the meanest and I don't want to accept any kind of negativity. I use social media to post information, but not to receive it, because people are very cruel”, explained Ronda, in an interview with the North American website “MMA Junkie”.

The UFC 193 episode taught the former champion that internet users are not interested in her human figure, but rather in her position as a sports star. “I don't want people to have access to me because they don't look at me as a person. You are an attraction for them. I don't want to read people saying the worst things imaginable about me every day. I just put things out [on social media] and don’t look beyond that,” she added.

Three months after the defeat, Ronda still has no plans to return to fights. The athlete is expected to be away for most of 2016 to record films, and only after that will she make an appointment inside the Octagon.
