In recent months, Overeem has been involved in a series of rumors that point to his likely departure from Ultimate and his arrival at Bellator, an organization managed by Scott Coker, his former boss from his Strikeforce days.
International outlets said Overeem could follow the path of Benson Henderson, former UFC lightweight champion who recently signed with Bellator. The Dutchman's most recent fight, against junior gypsy, in December, was the last of his old contract.
Thus, the current third place in the official heavyweight ranking remains alive on the Ultimate category scene. Overeem, 35 years old, has won three in a row, the last being against Cigano by technical knockout. He has an old rivalry with the current champion of the category, Fabricio Werdum, with a victory and a defeat for each side.
