The UFC lost one of the most relevant fighters in its lighter divisions. Former champion of the under-70 kg division, Benson Henderson announced that he will leave the largest MMA organization on the planet to join Bellator, Ultimate's great rival on the international scene.

The announcement puts an end to a long period of impasse between the athlete and the UFC. Henderson had been out of contract since his most recent fight in November against Jorge masvidal, and, from then on, there was talk about a renewal, but the parties could not reach an agreement.

The fighter himself made the announcement on his official website, without first thanking his former bosses. “I am beyond excited for the next phase of my career. It's a big change, like any other job change after working in the same place for a long time. I would be remiss if I didn't thank Dana White and Lorenzo Fertitta for the opportunities they gave me”, wrote the athlete.

UFC lightweight champion between 2012 and 2013, Henderson fought his last two fights at welterweight (under 77 kg). The athlete did not confirm which weight category he will fight in his new home.
