The welterweight category has a new top athlete who is here to stay. Eighth placed in the category ranking, Stephen Thompson imposed a real blow on the former champion John hendricks in the main fight of UFC Fight Night 82, an event held this Saturday night (6) in Las Vegas, in the United States.

Thompson put into practice his extremely dangerous stand-up game, which has already given him several kickboxing world titles in the past. Using an unusual stance, with his guard down, Thompson undermined Hendricks in the first minutes of the fight and delivered the first knockout suffered by the former champion.
“Wonderboy” (in free translation, “Wonder Boy”), as he is known, bothered Hendricks with blows to the face and body, varying the height of the target very efficiently. Hendricks even tried to take the fight to the ground, but to no avail, as Thompson showed excellent movement.
Little by little, Thompson opened his way to the knockout, landing blows with extreme precision. A straight left to the chin made Hendricks wobble and corner himself against the fence, and Thompson connected with another punch to knock the former champion down and claim the most important victory of his career.
After celebrating, Thompson asked for the chance to challenge Robbie Lawler for the category belt. “I hope to have the opportunity to fight for the belt. Dana White, please give me the chance,” he declared, in a direct message to the UFC president.

Roy Nelson he recovered from the bad phase he is experiencing in his career and returned to the winning track against Jared Rosholt. However, the fight left a lot to be desired in terms of action and irritated the audience in the gym.
The fight took place all the time on the feet. Even though he was a skilled wrestler, Rosholt was unable to take the fight to the ground, which meant that both men spent 15 minutes of action exchanging awkward blows.
Nelson bet above all on throwing his powerful right hand, which, predictably, posed no risk to his opponent. Rosholt, on the other hand, showed few resources on his feet, which left the fight with a low technical level.
The “fat guy” from Ultimate won the judges' decision – he hadn't won a fight using this method since 2007. It was only Nelson's second victory in his last seven fights. Rosholt suffered his third defeat in professional MMA, stopping a streak of three wins.
