Jorge Santiago defeats Misaki and defends Sengoku belt

Jorge Santiago successfully defends Sengoku belt

If the Brazilians had a party at Strikeforce this Saturday night (remember here), on the other side of the world, Brazilian athletes continued to shine this Sunday morning (Brasília time). Jorge Santiago faced the tough Kazuo Misaki at Sengoku 14, an event held in Tokyo, Japan, and successfully defended the organization's middleweight belt, beating the Japanese via technical knockout in the fifth round. Already Leo Santos defeated Sotaro Yamada, due to an irregular blow applied by his opponent.

Jorge Santiago suffers suffocation, but beats Misaki

In the rematch between Jorge Santigo and Kazuo Misaski, the Japanese athlete once again started the fight better. The Japanese worked with takedowns and submission attempts, all well defended by the Brazilian. However, in the fourth round, with a strong left cross, Santiago was knocked down and was severely punished with punches from mount and knees in the position on all fours. To try to escape the pressure, the Tupiniquim athlete intentionally left the ring and was punished with a red card (which removes 10% of the purse and a point on the judges' scorecards). When the round restarted, it was the Brazilian's turn to take down Misaki and work on ground and pound, where Kazuo was saved by the bell. In the last and decisive round, “Jorginho” went all out and in the opening moments returned the knockdown. Quick on the trigger, the ATT athlete mounted the Japanese and worked with strong punches, trying to defend himself, Misaki turned his back and Santiago attacked with a rear naked choke, again defended by his opponent. With 40 seconds left until the end of the fight, the Brazilian again mounted and threw several punches, unable to defend himself, the Japanese's corner threw in the towel and the Brazilian successfully defended his belt.
