Current UFC middleweight champion, Luke Rockhold had the desire to make his first title defense against his only tormentor inside the octagon, Vitor belfort. The North American even publicly asked to face the Brazilian several times, but, unfortunately for him, his request was not answered, and his next fight should be a rematch against Chris Weidman.

Rockhold faced Belfort in his UFC debut, in 2013, and lost by knockout in the first round. Since then, the American has won all of his fights, including the last one, against Weidman, which won him the belt.

When everything suggested that a rematch between Rockhold and Belfort could happen, the UFC confirmed that the “Phenomenon” will face his compatriot Ronaldo Jacare in may.

“Definitely yes, I pushed for the fight with Belfort to happen. I asked for him, but I was told he's not ready to fight for the title. I do not mind about it. But if he can beat Jacaré, I would love to face him again. I don't think he will beat him. He has a chance to land a punch, but who knows which Vitor we will see?”, declared Rockhold, in an interview with the podcast “The MMA Hour”.

Accepting the possibility of facing Weidman again, Rockhold promised that the result of the rematch should be the same as the first duel between the two, at UFC 194. “All signs point to Weidman. But I don't know what's going through his head. He is very religious and seems to believe that everything happens for a reason. I believe it has made him a better man, but he is going to step into that cage one more time with me and I am going to have to beat him again,” he said.
