Retinal injury could end Alan Belcher's career

Alan belcher would be the main fight of UFC Fight 22 against Demian Maia, but a retinal injury prevented the American from facing the Brazilian black belt (remember here). Now, 10 days after the discovery of the injury, the fighter may have his career ended prematurely.

“I had a detached retina and suddenly lost vision in my right eye. It happened suddenly, overnight,” said Belcher, who revealed that he contracted the injury while training in Brazil.

“I was preparing in Brazil and I think it happened in training, but I don't know exactly when. It will take a few months to heal and know when I will have my vision back”, said the fighter who lost sight in his eye completely.

“I lost a lot of my peripheral vision. She's back, but she's distorted. The doctors said that my vision will no longer be the same, but they will see how much I can recover”, said a disappointed Alan, who reveals that his return to fighting is still in doubt.

PUBLICITY:

“In the worst case scenario, nothing will improve and I will have to work with just one eye, so I wouldn't risk fighting with just one eye, because if I lost sight in that one I would go blind. I was getting close to the belt, but now there’s nothing I can do.”
