UFC 196 is experiencing serious problems less than two weeks before it takes place. Shortly after Cain Velazquez announce that he could not fight due to an injury, the heavyweight champion, Fabricio Werdum, also revealed that he does not have combat conditions, which cancels out the main fight of the attraction, on February 6th.
Velasquez announced that he would not fight on Sunday night (24), and the UFC immediately escalated Stipe Miocic to replace it. However, in an interview with the North American website “MMA Fighting”, Werdum also confirmed that he is out of the event.
“I was already hurt. I have a foot injury and haven't been able to kick for two weeks. I would still fight because I was injured last time, but I also injured my back last Friday (22). I went to the doctor, tried to train, but I couldn't spar properly. I decided not to fight because I wasn't 100%. If it was against Cain, I would move on. But I'm not 100%. It took a long time to get here and win the belt and I feel like I'm in the best moment of my career. I can’t risk my career for pride,” said the champion.
The UFC has not yet revealed its plans for the fight. The second most important fight of the night was between John hendricks, former welterweight champion, and Stephen Thompson.
