Current UFC featherweight champion, Conor McGregor wants to achieve an unprecedented achievement in March. If the lightweight champion wins, Rafael dos Anjos, the Irishman would be the first to triumph in two different categories simultaneously. But he doesn't want to stop there: next, his goal will be to win a third title, in the top division, the welterweight.
This is what McGregor's head coach, John Kavanagh, guarantees. He says a try at welterweight is not out of the question. “Maybe the chase for belts won’t stop there. The welterweight category is not out of the question. One of McGregor's training partners, Gunnar Nelson, is a welterweight, so Conor is quite used to the feeling [of facing a welterweight]. I wouldn’t be surprised if we were preparing to win a third title in a year’s time,” he wrote, in a column on the Irish website “The42”.
In December, McGregor knocked out José Aldo to win the featherweight title (up to 66 kg). On March 5th, at UFC 197, he will face Dos Anjos for the lightweight belt (up to 70 kg). The welterweight champion (up to 77 kg) is the North American Robbie Lawler.
