If in 2016 the UFC decided to take its foot off the accelerator and reduce the number of events in Brazil, including suspending the already announced March card in Rio de Janeiro (RJ), the organization has much bolder plans for Europe. According to the general director of Ultimate on the old continent James Elliot, the organization will hold two cards, one in the Netherlands and the other in Croatia, in the coming months.

The event in the Netherlands will be hosted in the city of Rotterdam and will take place on May 8th. The Croatian card will take place in the capital Zagreb and will be held on April 10th. “This is proof of the growth of the UFC brand. We are exploring two new markets in Europe in the first half of 2016. Fans keep asking for local events, and we will not disappoint them in these two events”, said the director, to the “MMA Fighting” website.
As soon as the events were announced, some of the main fighters linked to both countries spoke out on social media, asking to be part of the cards. North American of Croatian descent, Stipe Miocic said he would love to fight in the tournament in Zagreb, while Stefan struve celebrated the Octagon’s debut in the Netherlands and said that “it will be on this card anyway”.
