Since it came into force in July last year, the contract between UFC and Reebok has been the subject of controversy among fighters, due to the numerous restrictions it imposes on athletes and also the way in which the money from the agreement is transferred. In recent days, the violation of some items of the sponsorship policy between Ultimate and the sports equipment brand resulted in a fine for three fighters, including the Brazilian champion Rafael dos Anjos and former title challenger Donald “Cowboy” Cerrone.

“We had over 99% compliance with the Athlete Attire Policy. This week was the first time we needed to apply punishments with reduced payments for policy violations. A warning is issued when an athlete is in non-compliance, but is in compliance and takes action to correct the infraction. There are ample opportunities for the athlete to correct his infraction. A reduction in pay is enacted when an athlete knowingly and seriously violates the policy after having the opportunity to act correctly,” Ultimate manager Tracey Bleczinski told the North American website “MMA Junkie”.

According to the North American press, the fined athletes are: Rafael dos Anjos, who went to the UFC on FOX 17 weigh-in wearing the shirt of a gym he is affiliated with; the former title challenger Donald Cerrone, which used a patch of muay thai attached to his shorts in the fight against the Brazilian in the same event; It is Nate diaz, who, despite the insistence of the organization and Reebok, went to the weigh-in wearing jeans.

Furthermore, Bleczinski said that the Ultimate organization remains alert to possible new violations and cited the main cases that are under surveillance at the event, such as “the use of unapproved banners or flags in the octagon (only national flags are allowed), use of headphones without prior approval (only Monster branded ones are allowed) or bringing any other competing brand to the octagon, weigh-in, press conference or open training.”
