Mario Reis and Rodolfo share the shine at the CBJJE world championship

Absolute category awards

Generally, the highlight of the competition is the champion of the absolute category, which even deserves the black belt Rudolph Vieira. But there's no denying it, Mario Reis shared the attention equally in the Ibirapuera gym. In a first-class structure, with electronic scoreboards in the 11 fighting areas, for example, the black belts started this Friday the CBJJE World Jiu-Jitsu Championship, in São Paulo. Find out how it all went:

PUBLICITY:

Mario Reis (Gracie Barra) had a total of nine fights. There were four in the featherweight division alone and the fighter only failed to finish in the final, against the tough Isaque Paiva. “It's a shame I didn't finish them all, but it was worth it. I’m tired, but I’m also going to fight the absolute,” he had commented.

PUBLICITY:

In the free category came Rudolph Vieira (GFTeam), who did not compete for weight. In this case, a ticket to Japan was at stake, where the entity's Asian tournament takes place. Rodolfo surpassed all four opponents with superiority, while Mario, lighter, put on a show against the heavyweights. In the decision, however, the gaucho could not withstand the pressure from Vieira, submitted from behind, and was unable to repeat his feat from last year, when he won both categories. Better for Rodolfo, who triumphed brilliantly in his five fights and leaves for Japan.

But many other black belts did well. In bantamweight, MMA champion Jussier Formiga (Kimura) closed with his partner Yoshinori “Japa”. At featherweight, Bernardo Pitel (Nova União) did well, beating four opponents. In the final, he had a tough fight against Samir Chantre, won in the last seconds by an advantage, then a sweep and a draw on points (2 to 2).

The lightweight champion was another Gracie Barra fighter, Mario Reis' student Moacir Mendes. Moacir had five fights and, in the decision, he used strong judo to beat Felipe Vidal with a takedown. Adriano Silva (Barbosa) was the great middleweight champion. In the fourth appearance, the final against Bruno Almeida (Gracie Barra), he won after a 4-4 draw.

In the light heavyweight division, Ryan Gracie's teammates Diogo Almeida and the MMA fighter Viscardi Andrade, to the delight of professor Celsinho Venícius. The heavyweight went to the experienced Evandro Pena (Guigo), who finished with a choke from the back in the decision, his fourth fight. Daniel (Cia Paulista) beat four opponents and scored 16-0 to reach the top of the podium, against Jackson Paulo. And the gold in the heavyweight category went to Adrian Naliato (Impacto), who, in the fourth fight, which was worth the title, didn't mess around and submitted Weslei Silva “Formiga” (Cia Paulista) via triangle.

The most veterans also fought tough battles. André Marola (Nova Unão), for example, had three fights to be the best in the senior heavyweight division, while Jair Lourenço (Kimura) beat four opponents and also did well
