Right at the start of the fight, Carwin showed why he won all his fights in the first round. With two very powerful uppers he made Lesnar walk backwards and fall, where on the ground he severely punished Brock with ground and pound for almost four minutes. In the second round, Lesnar changed his strategy and feigned striking to quickly take the fight to the ground with his sharp wrestling. To the surprise of many, the current champion did not use strong punches from the guard, but worked a beautiful submission with a triangle hand, forcing three taps from Carwin.

Leben surprises and submits Akiyama

Called up at the last minute to replace the injured player Wanderlei Silva, Chris Leben, who had fought on June 12th, surprised everyone and submitted the tough black belt Yoshihiro Akiyama. The Japanese started the fight better by working good hand strikes and using his arsenal of takedowns to put the American on his back on the ground, but from the beginning of the fight, Leben tried some attacks on the arm even though he was on the bottom. In the second round, the two athletes provided a show of striking and determination with hard blows applied from both sides and ending on the ground, where Chris defended an armbar, which seemed to be caught by Akiyama. In the last round, the fight continued to be busy, but the Japanese preferred to work the fight on the ground, where he would win on points. However, with 20 seconds left in the duel, Leben manages to land a triangle and submit the Japanese black belt.
