2015 was a very busy year for Conor McGregor. During this period, the Irishman had three fights, participated in a world tour of press conferences to promote his fight against José Aldo and was one of the coaches of reality show The ultimate fighter. And, it seems, he has no intention of slowing down next year.

According to his main trainer, John Kavanagh, McGregor already has in mind what he considers an ideal schedule for the first part of 2016. “I believe his next fight will be for the lightweight belt. Maybe this will happen in March, April, something like that. Then he fights in July, at UFC 200. Maybe on this card he will defend the featherweight belt against Frankie [Edgar]”, commented Kavanagh, in an interview with the podcast “The MMA Hour”.

Last weekend, after knocking out José Aldo and win the definitive featherweight belt, McGregor himself had indicated that he intended to simultaneously become champion in the top category. At the time, the Irishman said that this is something viable, as he, according to his words, is a fighter who stays active.

Kavanagh agrees: “He will never wait until July to fight again. Even if I wanted to suggest this or convince him, I know it is a meaningless effort”, said the coach.

At UFC 194, McGregor took just 13 seconds to knock out Aldo and become the only champion in the 66-pound division. After the event, the UFC stated that the Irishman has two options ahead of him: defend his title against Frankie Edgar, who defeated Chad Mendes on Friday (11), or move up in weight and face the winner of Rafael dos Anjos e Donald Cerrone, who will fight, next Saturday (19), for the lightweight title.
