In the week of the most important fight of his career, José Aldo saw his name involved in a controversy that had nothing to do with Conor McGregor or UFC 194. The Brazilian fighter was criticized by Palmeiras fans for an alleged message on Facebook, which, in fact, did not come from his official profile on the social network.
In one fanpage false statement about the fighter, an internet user stated that, after Palmeiras' title over Santos in the Copa do Brasil final, he had no doubts about Aldo's defeat to McGregor. The answer came critically: “Friend, don't worry, I'm going to beat this jester. But please don’t put me in the same sentence as Palmeiras [sic], I have the World Cup”, wrote Aldo fake.
Several criticisms of Aldo immediately emerged, mostly from fans of the São Paulo club. However, on his official Facebook page, the UFC featherweight champion, who is a fanatical flamenco fan, clarified that he was not the author of the controversial message.
“Everyone knows my preference as a fan of a football club. But I have never disrespected and will not disrespect any other institution. There is an image going around of a supposed comment I made here about Sociedade Esportiva Palmeiras. Neither I nor anyone on my team published this. It was a fake page, using my name and the profile image from my official page, making this joke in terrible taste”, published the Brazilian's page.
“To confirm this, just note that there is no official page verification seal next to my name in the image of the supposed comment, which has already been deleted. Here I reiterate my respect for all clubs and fans in Brazil, and I count on your support, as I have always counted on throughout my career. I always represent our country, and I will do it once again on Saturday. Thank you and a hug to everyone”, added the athlete.
José Aldo e Conor McGregor are in the main fight of UFC 194, this Saturday (12), in Las Vegas, in the United States. The Brazilian, dominant champion in the featherweight division, hasn't known what it's like to lose in MMA for over ten years.
