After another defeat to TJ Dillashaw, the former bantamweight champion Renan Barao hinted that his future really lies in the featherweight category, but the presence of his friend and training partner José Aldo as title holder, she has always been identified as a possible obstacle to the transition. However, at least as far as Aldo himself is concerned, the change of Baron category is not only welcome but also encouraged.

“He (Barão) has to move up a category. He has to go to the penalty box. He struggled a lot to make the bantamweight division, which was very punishing for his body, even though he was a young kid. I think the top category will be better for him, both professionally, in the fight, and physically. Because he suffers much less to compete at featherweight, he will fight much better than at bantamweight,” said Aldo, at a press conference in Rio. “For me, there is no problem at all (sharing the category with Barão). I root for him. But you can see ahead, I don't see that far ahead yet. I think firstly he has to adapt well to the category, it's not an easy category. (…) I will always root for him, so he can be in people's heads, because he is a hard-working kid, who deserves it. And then, I leave it to the UFC and Dedé to resolve in the future, it’s beyond my jurisdiction”, he added.
