Even though he is facing serious accusations after brutally attacking his ex-girlfriend, pornographic film actress Christy Mack, MMA fighter War Machine seems not to be taking the whole situation seriously. In a preliminary hearing for his trial, the athlete and his defense used controversial arguments, including provocations against the prosecutor in the case.

Last year, War Machine, whose given name is Jon Koppenhaver, committed serious attacks against Christy Mack and a friend, Corey Thomas, at the actress' home. The fighter, who had stints in the UFC and Bellator, attacked Thomas for ten minutes, before turning his attention to Mack. She ended up with several injuries, including fractures to her ribs, her face and the loss of teeth, but, before being forced to have sex with the fighter, she managed to escape and call the police.

War Machine's lawyer, Brandon Sua, stated that the case could not be considered a rape, since Christy Mack, as a pornographic actress, was supposed to accept this type of violent sex. “This profession indicates that there is a desire, preference and acceptability in relation to a particular form of sex that is outside the norm,” said the defense.

The prosecutor in the case, Jaqueline Bluth, countered by stating that one thing is not related to another. “The fact that she consented to these acts during her professional life does not mean that he is authorized to do whatever he wants with her. You can’t draw that conclusion,” she argued.

After that, there was an unusual moment: Bluth reported a moment of provocation on War Machine's part. “Judge, for the record, Mr. Koppenhaver just blew me a kiss. I wouldn’t make something like that up, and I find it offensive,” he declared.

War Machine remains in prison in the United States and will face 34 charges, including two for attempted murder, robbery and sexual assault. At 33 years old, he, who attempted suicide in prison, could face life in prison if convicted.
