Anyone who watched UFC 193 last weekend may have found Edmond Tarverdyan's instructions to his athlete strange, Ronda Rousey, between the first and second rounds of the main fight of the attraction. The coach told the fighter that she had done a “good job”, as her rival, Holly holm, had clearly had the advantage in the first five minutes of the fight. After the fight ended, Tarverdyan explained himself and insisted that Ronda, in his opinion, was not “being delayed” in the stand-up fight.

In an interview with the North American broadcaster “ESPN”, Tarverdyan defended Rousey's strategy and stated that the striking fight was more even than people think. “The strategy was to put pressure on. We knew that Holly holm I was going to try to keep the distance, so we had to feint to be able to close the distance and press. I wouldn't say she [Holm] was getting the better of the standup, but I'd have to see it again. But we know this isn't a stand-up fight: Ronda is smart enough to take the fight where she's best. Holly prevented a submission attempt and a couple of takedowns. She did a good job”, declared Ronda’s coach.

The fight between Rousey and Holm had one of the most surprising results in recent MMA history. The challenger undermined the champion with sharp striking in the first five minutes to settle the score at the beginning of the second round, with a beautiful knockout after a kick to the head.
