The Canadian, now 34 years old, temporarily hung up his gloves at the beginning of last year, relinquishing his position as champion of the 77 kg division. Since then, he has been undecided about his return, indicating at different times that he might or might not return to the octagon.

According to renowned boxing trainer Freddie Roach, GSP will simulate training for a real fight, to see later if he has the desire to compete. “He’s going to train for a fight. He will do six weeks of training, and at the end of that, if he feels prepared to fight and is willing to do it like he was before, he will fight. He will fight once again. If he doesn't feel it, he'll let it go and retire. I think it's a good idea, it's a smart way for him to see what's in his head”, said Roach, also Manny Pacquiao's trainer, in an interview with the YouTube channel “Fight Hub TV”.

St. Pierre's last fight in the UFC came in November 2013, when he defeated John hendricks in the judges' split decision. In his MMA record, the Canadian has 25 wins and two losses, remaining UFC champion between 2006 and 2007 and between 2008 and 2013.
