"Fenômeno" said he was starting to use TRT at the time of the fight against Jones and that UFC knew about it, as they invited him as a last-minute replacement

In recent months, Vitor belfort was once again the center of a major controversy involving the now banned Testosterone Replacement Treatment (TRT). According to a report from the North American website “Deadspin”, released in September thanks to the leak of an email from the UFC leadership, Vitor fought against Jon Jones in 2012 even after presenting irregular anti-doping tests before the duel. Almost two months after the facts were publicized, and more than three years after the incident, Belfort finally broke his silence and opened up about the story, ensuring that the entire process was inspected and approved.

“I was starting my treatment (with TRT) and I had approval from my doctor and the UFC, so they needed someone to accept the fight. I volunteered, shared all my exams and one became public. I think they disclosed something private, but everything was approved”, declared Vitor, in an interview with the North American program “Inside MMA”. Furthermore, the Brazilian also complained about an alleged “persecution” that he had suffered by the press. Something that, according to him, did not happen with the many athletes in the United States who also adopted hormone replacement therapy.

“I don't see people talking about it, but 14 guys did TRT in the UFC, 12 of them were Americans. I don't see the press talking about them much. And, of course, I think the reason they talk about me is because I was devastating a young generation. And that was their excuse for losing. TRT doesn't teach you how to kick heads, throw round kicks to the head, like how I knocked people out. When guys lose their fights, they try to find excuses. I have never tried to make excuses and I will never make any to my opponents. Nobody is perfect, we all make mistakes, but the difference is that people who have goals in life don't make excuses. I still use TRT, but in a different way. Do you want to know what it is? It's called 'True Revival Touch', joked Vitor.

At 38, Vitor belfort has a professional record of 24 wins and 11 losses. In his last fight, the Brazilian was knocked out by the middleweight champion Chris Weidman, in a fight held last May. Now, Vitor returns to the octagon next Saturday (7) in the main fight of UFC Fight Night 77. The “Phenomenon” will face the veteran Dan Henderson at the Ibirapuera Gymnasium, in São Paulo (SP).
