Ronda talks about criticism from mother to coach

Both the fighter and Edmond Tarverdyan himself avoided refuting the harsh words recently spoken by Ann Maria DeMars

Ronda Rousey avoided controversy and minimized the repercussions of his mother's statements against his coach, Edmond Tarverdyan, claiming that he will deal with the matter privately with everyone involved.

Recently, the fighter's mother, Ann Maria DeMars, world judo champion and Ronda's mentor when she competed in the sport, stated that Tarverdyan is “a bad person” and a “terrible coach”. She considers that the coach “won the lottery” by being able to count on an athlete of Ronda's level, who, according to her mother, only continues working with him out of superstition.

At a press conference held at the gym where she trains, in California (USA), Ronda did not talk when asked about the subject. “Any reaction or response I have to my mother will be said directly to her by me. She won’t find out from a press vehicle,” she said, in an excerpt reproduced on the broadcaster’s “FOX Sports” website. Asked what she would talk about with her mother, she replied: “I really don't think it's anyone's business.”

Tarverdyan, also present at the press conference, also gave little importance to Ann Maria's statements. "It does not matter to me. We have a fight on November 14th, and that's it. That's all I care about at the moment. It's her mother, after all. I'm someone who never says anything negative about anyone's mother, and I'm not going to do that. A mother is a mother, and that’s it,” she declared.
