Minotaur counts injuries: '22 surgeries and 16 pieces of metal in his right arm alone'

Legendary former Brazilian champion said that a series of injuries at the end of his career were decisive for his retirement

Last September, a few weeks after being defeated by Stefan struve in the river, Rodrigo Minotauro announced his retirement from MMA, and now holds a position on the UFC's Brazilian board of directors. After a career marked by both success in the ring and injuries, Minotauro decided to count his injuries and the numbers are surprising.

“I had a total of 22 surgeries. I'm all broken. I started my 'surgical career' very early, at the age of 11, when I was hit by a truck. But the last five years have been more difficult. I've had eight surgeries, I have 16 pieces of metal in my right arm, from the elbow to the shoulder, and they cause me to feel a lot of pain at the beginning of a surgery. camp or when the temperature changes. At 39 years old, Minotauro ended his professional MMA career with a record of 34 wins, ten losses, one draw and one unsuccessful fight. Former champion of the Japanese PRIDE event and former holder of the interim UFC heavyweight belt, the Brazilian had a hard time in the final stretch of his career, suffering three consecutive defeats for the first time, to Fabricio Werdum, Roy Nelson e Stefan struve.
