With three good title fights, another edition of Strikeforce ended recently in Nashville. The show, which was broadcast live throughout the United States via CBS, established “King mo”, Gilbert Melendez and Jake Shields.
Muhammad “King mo” Lawal vs. Gegard Mousasi
Facing the champion Gegard Mousasi, Kingo Mo was the underdog in the duel for the light heavyweight belt. But using takedowns and ground and pound well, Lawal dominated the unrecognizable Armenian during all five rounds and won by judges' decision. With the defeat, Mousasi's unbeaten run of 15 fights and three years and eight months ends
Gilbert Melendez vs. Shinya Aoki
Shinya Aoki's debut on American soil was not what the Japanese expected. Facing the organization's lightweight champion, Gilbert Melendez, he avoided the Japanese man's dangerous jiu-jitsu and worked well on his striking along with efficient ground and pound to win a unanimous decision from the judges.
Jake Shields etc.. Dan Henderson
Another athlete who successfully defended his belt was Jake Shields. In front of the experienced Dan Henderson, the 84-kilogram champion had a hard time at the beginning of the fight, but using takedowns, ground and pound and his jiu-jitsu well, Jake dominated Hendo on the ground and came away with the victory by the judges' decision.
However, the event had an unpleasant situation at the end. After beating Henderson, Jake Shields had his interview interrupted by Jason Miller who asked for a rematch for the current champion, however, what was seen afterwards was a general fight with the entire Shilds team attacking Jason and CBS TV taking the show off the air immediately. Check out the full results of the event.
