Current featherweight world champion, José Aldo is quite critical of the way fighters are treated financially by the UFC. The athlete spoke again on the subject and agreed with the idea given by Vitor belfort as for one possible salary for fighters.

Nowadays, athletes basically receive a one-time stipend each time they fight, payment from sponsors (which has become more limited with the uniform agreement between the UFC and Reeebok), as well as a pre-defined budget from the sporting equipment supplier. For Aldo, each fighter should receive a fixed amount every month.

“I support this idea, of course. In the NFL, Nike makes the uniforms, but the clubs pay the players' salaries, it's like that in the NBA too. For athletes who are starting out and don't have a lot of earnings, don't receive a lot of pay-per-view, life gets difficult. There is a lot of expense for fitness trainers, trainers and sparring partners, as no one nowadays goes to the gym to get punched for free. If that happened, it would be great, if not, let's take it. Whether we like it or not, we are subject to injuries, we can remain idle for a long time, which harms the athlete, who only wins when he is fighting. If it is injured, the lace is left aside. It’s always good to have a sponsor to support, as that’s what keeps the athlete going”, said Aldo, in an interview with the “Combate” channel website.

Many consider that one way to make this idea viable would be to create a union of professional MMA fighters. Aldo supports the idea, but doesn't see it happening. “No one considered that. The class of athletes is very disunited due to a history of rivalries between gyms and sports. Of course it's different from before, but there's still that. It's that thing: little flour, my pirão first. If I don't fight for a price, tomorrow someone else will come and accept it. The disunity is great, that’s why we don’t have many gains”, he added.
