In the face-off, Cormier ignored the huge height disadvantage and stared straight at Gustafsson, who didn't back down. Afterwards, the champion sent a very clear message to the fans present. “It was the best weight cut I’ve ever had. Tomorrow I will open the cage and make Gustafsson think about retirement again. Go back to Sweden and go be a model”, said the North American.

Gustafsson, in turn, was more brief: “Houston, you will see a new champion tomorrow,” he declared.

The rest of the weigh-in went without any major setbacks. Former light heavyweight champion, Rashad evans stepped up on the scales for the first time since November 2013, as he has been sidelined since then due to injury. The fighter weighed 93 kg, slightly less than his opponent, Ryan bader, who used the extra pound of tolerance given to fights that aren't worth the belt.

Then, the two fighters stared at each other, seriously. They even had their faces glued together, until Evans started to provoke Bader. UFC president Dana White intervened and prevented any confusion.

The only Brazilian at the event, Adriano Martins easily surpassed the lightweight limit. The only athlete to fail at the weigh-in was Francisco Trevino, who was almost two kilos heavier than he should have been.
