Former UFC champion Jon Jones took an important step towards his return to fighting this Tuesday (29), when he reached an agreement with the North American justice system and received 18 months of probation. However, this still does not mean that he is fully cleared to fight again.

In April of this year, Jones, then light heavyweight champion, was involved in a traffic accident in Albuquerque (USA). The fighter ran through a red light and hit a car driven by a pregnant woman. Jones then fled without rendering aid. The UFC, shortly after, stripped the fighter of his belt and suspended him indefinitely.
In a statement sent to the press shortly after the court's decision, the UFC stated that it will carry out further analysis of the case before being able to officially confirm Jones' return to fighting.
“The UFC organization is aware that Jon Jones reached a settlement with authorities in Albuquerque, New Mexico this morning regarding a traffic accident earlier this year. As a result, the UFC, through Las Vegas law firm Campbell & Williams, will review the agreement before discussing Jones' possible reinstatement to competition. More information will be provided after the end of this review”, declared Ultimate.
Jones' last fight was in January of this year, when he defended his title against Daniel Cormier at UFC 182. The American established himself as the greatest light heavyweight champion in history, defending the title eight times.
