Currently, Rafael dos Anjos is the UFC lightweight champion, having won the title in March, by dominating the then belt holder Anthony Pettis. However, the Brazilian lives with the ghost of Khabib Nurmagomedov, an undefeated Russian who defeated him last year. And, in the veteran's opinion Josh thomson, Nurmagomedov will soon be the new owner of the title.

Former Strikeforce champion, former Ultimate fighter and now Bellator, Thomson recently trained with Nurmagomedov at the American Kickboxing Academy, the same team where they also train Cain Velazquez, Daniel Cormier e Luke Rockhold. For him, it's only a matter of time before the Russian reaches the top.

“There is no doubt that he will be UFC champion in the future. The current champion is someone he has already beaten – and he didn't just beat him, he destroyed him. He threw Dos Anjos everywhere with ease. Apart from a lucky punch, a lucky kick or something like that, I don't see him being beaten”, analyzed Thomson, in an interview with the North American website “MMA Junkie”.

The undefeated Nurmagomedov, who was out for a long time due to injury, will return to action on December 11th, against Tony Ferguson. Dos Anjos fights just over a week later, on the 19th, against Donald Cerrone, at UFC on FOX 17
