Jon Jones could be one step closer to being released to finally return to fights in the UFC. According to information obtained by the North American website “MMA Fighting”, the former champion is trying to reach an agreement with the New Mexico court regarding the charges he faces for a traffic accident in April.

The Albuquerque court, where all the controversy took place, had until this week to decide whether the case would be taken to a popular jury. However, the deadline passed, which indicates that the fighter's defense has a greater chance of reaching an agreement.

On April 26, Jones ran a red light in a rented SUV and struck a car driven by a pregnant woman. Afterwards, the fighter fled the scene on foot, briefly returning to his car to retrieve a quantity of money that was there. Police found drugs at the scene, and Jones was arrested shortly thereafter. The UFC then stripped him of his light heavyweight belt and suspended him indefinitely.
