“I want to thank God and the fans who attended the event. For 19 years, I wouldn't do it without the fans. Andre Berto is a fighter with heart and it was a good fight. But what can I say? I was the better man today. My career is over. It's official. I'm close to 40 years old, I've broken all the records and I have nothing left to do in the world of boxing. Having this record alongside Marciano is part of boxing. I leave the sport fast, in shape. I’m the best, I was the best, the smartest and I’m the one who made the most money”, said Floyd still in the ring.
The fight
With a well-known fighting style, Mayweather made Berto his favorite match. He started the fight by working with quick jabs and then 'clinching' the opponent. The fighting style irritated Berto, but he couldn't hit Floyd.
Only in the third round did Berto manage to hit Floyd with a jab, without power. Mayweather even slipped and needed to support himself in the ring. The fourth round was the busiest of the duel. Berto started to be more offensive, cornering his rival on the ropes. In turn, Money landed two powerful punches on his opponent.
From the fifth round onwards, however, Mayweather returned to playing his game. With a masterful of dodges and speeds, he dominated his rival in the following stages. Without wasting punches, the super champion hit Andre Berto with each attack.
In the 11th round, close to his farewell, Mayweather began to play with his rival. After an attempted attack by the challenger, Floyd turned his face as if looking for his opponent.
Mayweather once again controlled the fight, frustrating Berto's attacks in the 12th round and won the judges' unanimous decision.
Salary
For winning his farewell fight, Floyd Mayweather received an incredible 35 million dollars, around R$135 million.
