Away from MMA since the first half of this year, after being involved in yet another major controversy, the former light heavyweight champion Jon Jones gained a somewhat unlikely fan and supporter: Daniel Cormier. In an interview, DC, who occupied the position of holder of the belt in the under-93 kg category vacated by Jones, said he needs his rival's figure and said he is eagerly awaiting his return to the octagon.

“Of course I need the Jon Jones. As I move forward, with this fight in October and facing the Alexander Gustafson, I need this guy. I need him to come back and face me again. For my journey to be complete and for me to feel complete leaving this sport, I need it. And honestly, I wish him all the best so he can come back and I can stop playing with these guys and get back to business,” Cormier said at a press conference in Las Vegas (USA).
Furthermore, the champion asked journalists to stop remembering Alexander Gustafson only as the athlete who fought the toughest fight of his career Jon Jones, but he didn't miss the chance to provoke his challenger. “If I were Gustafsson, honestly, I would probably be a little nervous with you guys because all you talk about is how close the fight against Jones was. (…) You only talk about a fight he lost! He lost! Let's stop talking about that fight he lost in and let's talk about the positive things he's already done. And when you look at the situation like that, you already know exactly what will happen on October 3rd: he will lose to me”, he assured.
At 36, Daniel Cormier has a professional record of 16 wins and only one defeat in his career, precisely to Jon Jones – in January this year. The duel between Cormier and Jones was one of the most anticipated in the history of the light heavyweight category in Ultimate, especially after the fight between the two during a promotional event months before the confrontation.
