José Aldo Now he has competition for the position of greatest UFC champion today. At UFC 191, an event held this Saturday night (5) in Las Vegas (USA), Sunday morning in Brazil, Demetrious Johnson derrotou John Dodson and defended the flyweight belt for the seventh time, equaling the Brazilian fighter's mark in the featherweight category.

The rematch between Johnson and Dodson was much calmer for the champion than the first meeting between the two was. If in January 2013 the challenger became a nuisance, even obtaining some knockdowns, this time Johnson controlled practically all the actions, without suffering any major scares.

PUBLICITY:

The champion showed his usual impeccable movement, which prevented Dodson from approaching and connecting with his dangerous left hand. Johnson then began to loosen up little by little, relying on combinations of clinch strikes and takedown attempts, which ended up undermining Dodson's physical preparation.

Meanwhile, Johnson maintained a frenetic pace from start to finish, and Dodson showed a clearer drop in performance from the fourth round onwards. Thus, the champion started to land more blows on Dodson, who was unable to react until the end of the fight.

All the judges gave victory to Johnson, who thus kept his belt for the seventh time. The other six were against Joseph Benavidez, John Moraga, Ali Bagautinov, Chris Cariaso, Kyoji Horiguchi, as well as the first meeting with Dodson.

The main card of UFC 191 also had a lukewarm victory for Andrei Arlovski against Frank mir, the return of Anthony Johnson with victory over Jimi Manuwa and another triumph for the “UFC sweetheart” paige vanzant.

Promising muse strolls and wins without fear

Paige Alex

Considered one of the main promises of the women's strawweight division and potential star, paige vanzant had another quiet victory inside the Octagon. The youngest fighter in Ultimate, aged 21, dominated the action from start to finish against Alex Chambers, until she settled the bill before the judges' decision.

PUBLICITY:

VanZant showed her usual aggression and pace, giving the Australian no peace. The fighter worked hard with strikes while standing and in the clinch, sometimes mixing it with takedowns at different times. The victory almost came in the second round, when she turned on a “machine gun” attack on Chambers, who ended up surviving.

In the third round, Paige came ready to settle the bill. She took her opponent down and almost got a rear-naked choke, but then was quick to land one. arm lock and finish. It was his third consecutive victory in the Octagon, while Chambers lost his second in three fights in the UFC.

Johnson confirms his favoritism and dispatches Manuwa

Coming off a defeat in the light heavyweight title fight, Anthony Johnson took an important step towards a new opportunity to fight for the title. The North American confirmed his favoritism and defeated Jimi Manuwa in the third-to-last fight of the night.

Johnson started the fight cautiously, worrying about taking Manuwa to the ground during the first round. In the second round, however, “Rumble” accepted the exchange and took advantage of a moment of hesitation from Manuwa, who let his guard down immediately after throwing a kick. Johnson then connected with a powerful right-hand shot, which took the England-based Nigerian to the ground.

Manuwa was practically unable to fight, but Johnson went after him to settle the bill. After the referee's interruption, Manuwa complained and claimed that he was still defending himself, but it was too late.

With that, Johnson, who had lost to the champion Daniel Cormier in May, it resumed its winning ways. Manuwa, on the other hand, suffered his second career defeat, as he lost to Alexander Gustafson in March last year.

In the penultimate fight of the event, Andrei Arlovski got the better of Frank mir in a duel between former heavyweight champions. The fight, however, did not please the public present at the MGM Grand Garden Arena, who ended up booing the actions at different times.

Mir was visibly out of shape, which caused him to slow down in the first round. Even so, Arlovski was hesitant to attack, which left the fight somewhat lukewarm.

The North American managed to take the fight to the ground in the second round, but he took little action. Back on his feet, Arlovski scored with precise but not very forceful blows. The most notable moment was in the third round, when Mir took down the Belarusian after a blow. Even so, Arlovski survived and reacted, opening a large cut on Mir's eyebrow with an elbow in the clinch.

After three rounds of dispute, the three judges gave Arlovski victory. Thus, the Belarusian remains undefeated since returning to the UFC, with four wins, while Mir loses for the first time after scoring two knockouts in 2015.
