At approximately 20:30 pm, Monique Bastos was heading to her gym when she was approached by two men on a motorcycle. “I was going to train with two other [girls] and they pulled over on the bike and took their cell phones. The way they touched, I thought they were friends. But I saw they weren't. Then he took my cell phone and got back on the motorcycle to leave, but I ended up grabbing the back of the motorcycle and knocking it over. The one who took my cell phone ran away, but the one who was driving I managed to catch,” Monique told local television station Difusora.
Aware that the robber in question was not armed, she used a rear-naked choke, took him to the sidewalk and applied a triangle, maintaining the position for around 15 minutes, when the police arrived. In the video, Wesley Sousa de Araújo, 18, appeared desperate about the situation, even asking for the police to be called. People around tried to attack the robber, but Monique calmed them down.
Thus, Wesley was taken to the police station, where he remains under arrest. The man who accompanied him, who even managed to take away the fighter's cell phone, remains at large.
