'Toquinho shouldn't think about fighting again', says WSOF director

Ali Abdelaziz says the Brazilian has put himself in a difficult position and urges him to seek help urgently

After your most recent fight, Rousimar Toquinho got into hot water with his bosses at WSOF. The vice-president of the North American organization, Ali Abdelaziz, stated that the Brazilian should leave his return to MMA on the back burner and worry about seeking psychological help.

Toquinho, who had been fired from the UFC for holding on to a submission for longer than necessary, was hired by WSOF, where he debuted last year. In the new organization, he won three fights by submission, and in all three he was accused of also holding the position for longer than necessary.

In his last fight, against Jake Shields, Toquinho even received aggression from his opponent after the fight ended, as the North American thinks the Brazilian should have dropped the submission earlier. Thus, Toquinho was provisionally suspended by the Nevada Athletic Commission.

“Toquinho did this to himself. He did this to himself and continues to do so. I don't think he should think about fighting again. He should think about his well-being, his mental state. This guy needs help. I don’t know what kind of help he needs, but he needs serious help”, said Abdelaziz, in an interview with the North American website “MMA Fighting”.

At 35 years old, Toquinho has a record of 18 wins and six losses in professional MMA. He stayed in the UFC between 2008 and 2013, until he was sent away after his victory over Mike Pierce.
