It seemed that the UFC Fight Night 74 preliminary card, in Saskatoon (Canada), would be one to forget and full of defeats for the Brazilians. However, debuting in the bantamweight category, Felipe Sertanejo saved Brazilian participation in the fights that opened the Canadian program and submitted Yves Jabouin in the first round. Still in the octagon, honoring his nickname, Felipe paid tribute to country idol Cristiano Araújo, who passed away two months ago in a car accident.

“Today marks two months since we lost a great idol in Brazil, Cristiano Araújo, and if the people in Canada could give him a round of applause, because 'what we have for today is nostalgia'”, said the fighter to the commentator official Jon Anik, quickly listening to the outpouring of respect from the audience at Sasktel Arena.

Despite the triumph, however, the fight started difficult for Sertanejo, who suffered a hard fall right away and quickly showed that he felt the blow. Below, on the ground, the Brazilian listened to the instructions from his corners, was patient and managed to reverse the position, quickly getting out into an armbar. Yves Jabouin even tried to resist, but gave up in the final minute of the first round.

Sertanejo also commented on the decision to move down to bantamweight and evaluated his debut in the 61,2 kg category well. “Before, I was a bit lazy and didn’t like to stop eating. Then I felt ashamed, I dropped down a category and this is my place”, analyzed Felipe, who expanded his professional record in MMA to 17 wins, seven losses, one draw and two unsuccessful fights.
