A bizarre situation marked the Noxii Combat 1 event, an event held in May in Joinville (SC). Strawweight Kinberly Novaes, who defeated Renata Baldan by unanimous decision to win the organization's belt, discovered that she competed in the event while pregnant.

The fighter discovered the pregnancy while preparing to fight her next fight, in August. Having difficulty cutting weight, as she felt unwell and nauseous, the athlete went to the doctor to investigate and discovered that she was pregnant with a boy. After some calculations, Kinberly concluded that she was already 12 weeks pregnant in her fight on Santa Catarina soil.
“I'm a little stubborn and I don't like going to the doctor. I felt sick for a while, with cramps, headaches and cramps. I felt very tired, I couldn't even run. It was difficult to cut weight – in fact, I gained a kilo in six days. When I went to the doctor, he asked me if I was pregnant. I said no, that the problem was in the intestine, but he asked me for a blood test. An hour later he told us I was pregnant. I cried and ran away, but then I realized it was something good: I wasn't sick, but I had a boy”, explained the fighter, in an interview with the North American website “MMA Fighting”.
As much as Kinberly felt relieved, the episode represents a serious situation for the Noxii Combat event, which allowed one of its athletes to compete while pregnant.
The event promoter, Bruno Barros, admitted the error and said that he did not ask for a pregnancy test for his fighters. According to him, only tests for HIV and hepatitis were required, which do not detect a pregnancy in the results. Therefore, Barros stated that he will require a pregnancy test from now on.
