Stipe Miocic was quite disappointed with the announcement that Cain Velazquez will be the first challenger for the UFC heavyweight belt, currently owned by Fabricio Werdum. The North American of Croatian descent, who is coming off a resounding victory over Mark Hunt, expected to receive the chance, but ended up being left aside.

Not to be idle, Miocic will face Ben Rothwell at UFC Fight Night 76, in Dublin, Ireland. Even though he has to take a step further than he would like towards a title fight, the fighter guarantees that, sooner or later, he will become champion.

“I’m going to be the heavyweight champion. I'm going to get there and nothing is going to stop that from happening. I wanted to get a title shot in my next fight, but apparently I have to win one more fight. If I have to take another step and beat another tough guy, so be it. Nothing will stop me from getting there and I will do whatever it takes”, declared Miocic, in an interview with the official UFC website.

At 31 years old, Miocic has a record of 13 wins and two losses in professional MMA. Before beating Hunt, the athlete had lost in a very close fight against the former champion junior gypsy.
