Personal dramas and meteoric success in fights: discover Ronda Rousey's trajectory

Last weekend, the Brazilian public was able to see up close the MMA phenomenon called Ronda Rousey. The North American, champion of the UFC women's bantamweight division, massacred the Brazilian Bethe Correia in Rio de Janeiro (RJ), achieving victory by knockout in just 34 seconds.

When it comes to women's fighting, Rousey is synonymous with aggression and efficiency. After all, 11 of his 12 professional MMA fights didn't make it past the first round; his last four fights, combined, lasted 2min10s. Furthermore, the fighter draws attention not only for her strength and history of success in martial arts, but also for her beauty and strong personality.

Given the North American's success, not everyone who witnessed Ronda's victory over Correia knows her story of overcoming, both professionally and personally.

The first hard blow suffered by the fighter came only at the age of eight, when her father, suffering from the consequences of a serious skiing accident, committed suicide. A few years later, Ronda began practicing judo, influenced by her mother, AnnMaria de Mars, the first North American world champion in the sport.

And hobby It ended up becoming a serious thing. Ronda showed talent in judo and grew within the sport, winning the Pan-American title, a silver medal at the World Championships and bronze at the Beijing Olympics in 2008. But, dejected with third place at the Olympics, Ronda admitted, in her recent -released biography, which plunged into alcohol and drug addiction.

The comeback came in 2011, when he made his professional MMA debut. His trajectory in combat was meteoric, as, in his fifth fight, he won the title of the now-defunct Strikeforce organization.

At the time, UFC president Dana White strongly rejected the creation of a women's category in his event. However, aware of the enormous success and media potential provided by Rousey, he changed his mind and brought women to the octagon in 2013.

Since then, Rousey has continued massacring her opponents, obtaining six victories, with three submissions and three knockouts. And, with the great showcase provided by the UFC, she ended up gaining even more prominence in the media, whether specialized in martial arts or not.

Ronda was on the cover of the prestigious special edition of “Sports Illustrated” magazine, in addition to making history by winning, for two years in a row, the ESPY award, organized by the North American broadcaster “ESPN”.

Rousey has also been expanding her field of activity in recent years. The beautiful blonde has already starred in four films, such as “The Expendables 3” and “Fast and Furious 7”. As she herself has already commented, her film career will be one of her priorities for the future – all of this, however, has not hindered her efficiency in the Octagon. Definitely, Ronda Rousey is a star that is here to stay.
