Anderson Silva went through an intense period of reflection after suffering two defeats to Chris Weidman in 2013, when he lost the UFC middleweight belt and then fractured his leg.

Until then, the organization's most dominant champion, “Spider” was controversially dethroned in July 2013, when he was knocked out while openly provoking the American. A few months later, during the rematch, the Brazilian was trying to recover from a delay in the first round when he injured his leg while trying to throw a kick.

In an interview with the website “Citizens of Humanity”, Anderson explained the first defeat to Weidman and said he saw his injury as a divine message. “I lost the first fight due to lack of focus. Because I was thinking about other things, because I was unhappy with myself, with what I was doing, and I was even disappointed with the organization, with life as a celebrity and with the struggles themselves. But by the second fight, I was completely ready. God gave me a sign there: 'Man, you need to stop. I gave you a sign and you didn't understand,'” said the fighter.

For Anderson, the stage of his life as champion was not making him happy. “I didn’t have time for my life, for my reality, which was being with my children, with my family. People don't care if you're hurt, if your head is on straight. They want the fight to happen, because the show must go on. And it needs to be true. But it is not. For me, it was never real. The system takes away what really exists in you, what you love”, he reflected.

the career of Anderson Silva is experiencing an impasse at the moment. The Brazilian awaits to be judged by the Nevada Athletic Commission on the doping case in his last one, in January, against Nick Diaz. The hearing should be held on August 13th.
