Mendes, MacDonald and Almeida receive six-month medical suspensions after UFC 189

Trio is included in the group of eight athletes who suffered an entire semester due to injuries during the event

The intense fights on the UFC 189 main card led to some heavy medical suspensions for the athletes who participated in the event. Eight fighters, including Chad Mendes, Rory McDonald e Thomas almeida, received six months of hooking for injuries acquired during their combats.

Mendes, defeated by Conor McGregor in the main fight of the night, he will only be released before the deadline if he presents tests that rule out greater seriousness in the fracture in his right thumb, suffered in the initial moments of the fight. The Irishman, who won by technical knockout, received a 45-day hook for the cut he suffered above his right eye.

MacDonald will also be suspended for a full semester after breaking his nose and foot during his battle with Robbie Lawler, although it can also be released earlier, within 62 days, if satisfactory examinations of the injured areas show. The champion, even though he was also badly injured from the fight, will only be out for 47 days due to his cut on his lip.

Almeida, the only Brazilian to participate in the event, received a 185-day suspension for injuring his nose in front of Brad pickett. If he recovers, he will be free to fight in 47 days.
