UFC 189, which will be held this Saturday (11), was originally going to feature one of the most anticipated fights of recent times, between José Aldo e Conor McGregor for the organization's featherweight belt. However, as everyone knows, the Brazilian was injured and will not be able to participate in the fight, being replaced by Chad Mendes – who will compete against the Irish for the interim title.

This was not the first time that Aldo left an important UFC fight due to injury (see the gallery below). However, Mendes, who has already faced the Brazilian twice, came to his rival's defense and stated that some types of accidents during training cannot be avoided.

“The bad thing is that Aldo gets hurt a lot. It's a recurring thing, so a lot of people are starting to get irritated. But this is what I say: injuries are out of our control. We train, we try to be as careful as possible, but we have to realize that this is MMA, a sport in which we punish our bodies daily. We tried to take every precaution, using the correct equipment, but we were unable to control several things”, argued the North American, in a press conference reproduced by the North American website “MMA Fighting”.

Interestingly, Mendes was already the “victim” of an injury to Aldo. Last year, the two were scheduled to face each other in August, at UFC 176, which would be held in Los Angeles (USA). Aldo was injured shortly beforehand, which caused the entire event to be cancelled. The fight was rescheduled for October, in Rio de Janeiro, with Aldo winning after five electrifying rounds, according to the judges' decision.
