the defeat of Cain Velazquez for Fabricio Werdum at UFC 188 still resonates in the world of MMA. Veteran Don Frye, who won two titles in the organization when the dispute was still in a tournament format, harshly criticized the former champion for considering that he had not prepared himself in the best way for the fight.

Velasquez ended up being submitted by Werdum in the third round, when he was already showing greater wear compared to the Brazilian. For Frye, the American of Mexican descent did not face the altitude of Mexico City as he should have, and, therefore, deserved the defeat he suffered.

"Cain Velazquez did not train properly for the fight. He's an idiot and he took a beating, and he deserved it. Is he supposed to behave like the heavyweight champion of the world and he's not capable of going somewhere else to get used to the altitude? He trained at sea level and fought at 2300 meters altitude. You don't need to be a scientist to know that you need to go there a month or two in advance. And if he’s not smart enough, his coach should be,” said Frye, in an interview with the “Submission Radio” podcast.

The fight marked the second setback for Velasquez, who hadn't fought since October 2013 after suffering shoulder and knee injuries.
