UFC 'forgets' Lyoto on uniforms, confuses ex-TUF and gaffes go viral on the internet

They were barely launched, at a press conference held this Tuesday morning (30) in New York (USA), and the new UFC uniforms, produced in partnership with the sports equipment brand Reebok, have already become a joke on the internet. The reason for this was the series of errors made in the new exclusive Octagon models.

Theoretically, all athletes under contract with the organization, in addition to some historic names who have passed through the octagon, should have their names on the list of fighters whose uniforms are available for sale on the official Reebok website. However, right away, it was possible to notice the absence of none other than Lyoto Machida, former light heavyweight champion who fought last Saturday (27). On the other hand, even though he was fired two years ago, Chinese Tiequan Zhang appears in the list.

The absence of Lyoto Machida, however, can be explained by the confusion with a former TUF Brasil 3 participant, whose nickname was inspired by “Dragão”, and who appears twice. In addition to the “Márcio Alexandre” version, middleweight Márcio Lyoto also appears as “Márcio Lyoto Machida".

Other gaffes that also went viral on social media were the nationality errors of many athletes. Among the main confusions, the following quotes stood out: the former North American champion Ben henderson as a South Korean, the inclusion of Cypriot Costas Philippou as a Greek, the appearance of the North American Jorge masvidal as Cuban and the absence of Yoel romero e Hector Lombard like Cubans.

Finally, two errors in the names of two great names from the past and present of Ultimate were also a source of mockery on the internet: the former welterweight champion and member of Hall of Fame Matt hugs, who appears as “Mark” Hughes”; and former Strikeforce champion and two-time lightweight title challenger Gilbert Melendez, who goes by “Giblert Melendez.”

For now, official UFC uniforms are only available for sale at Reebok's North American store. There is still no forecast of when the models will reach the Brazilian market.
