The information that José Aldo had suffered a rib injury, but would still be retained in the duel against Conor McGregor for the featherweight belt, changed the projections of bookmakers in the United States for the long-awaited fight and made the Irish challenger appear as the favorite.

José Aldo opened betting with a quote of -140 (or the equivalent of US$0,71 for every dollar invested). McGregor, on the other hand, started counting with a quote of +160 (or US$1,60 for every dollar bet). After the announcement of the Brazilian's injury, however, the scenario was reversed in most newsstands and the Irishman's victory was now considered more likely.
According to the specialized website “Best Fight Odds”, Aldo now appears with an average quote of +110 (or US$1,10 for every dollar bet). McGregor, the new favorite, appears at -135 (or US$0,75 for every dollar invested). Despite this, some brokers offer bets with different odds, in which the Brazilian is the favorite and the Irish are the underdog, but the values are also very close.
Until further notice, José Aldo faces Conor McGregor in the main fight of UFC 189, an event scheduled for July 11th, at the MGM Grand Garden Arena, in Las Vegas (USA). According to McGregor's coach, John Kavanagh, the official decision if Aldo fights or if he will be replaced by Chad Mendes, Ultimate's plan B, will only come out the day before the duel, moments before the official weigh-in.
