Caught on doping after his victory over Melvin Manhoef in February, former Bellator champion Alexander Shlemenko went on trial at the California Athletic Commission and received a severe punishment.
In addition to seeing his triumph over Manhoef reversed in a No Contest, Shlemenko received a fine of US$10 (R$30,7, at the current rate) and was suspended by the regulatory body for three years.
In the post-fight exam, released in March, the Russian showed high testosterone levels, at an incredible testosterone/epitestosterone ratio of 50/1 (while the maximum allowed by California state regulations is 4/1), and tested positive for anabolic steroids.
Despite the facts, Shlemenko denies using illegal substances and will appeal the decision – based on the fact that, according to his defense, there was no second sample collected at the time of the test.
At 31 years old, Alexander Shlemenko has a professional record of 51 wins, nine losses and one fight without result.
