The first Brazilian to enter the Octagon at UFC Fight Night 69, Júnior Alpha ended up suffering his second defeat in two fights in the organization. The former champion of Jungle Fight He started well, but, in the first round, he suffered a tough knockout against Scott Askham.
The Brazilian's strategy was clear from the beginning. Shorter than his rival, Alpha tried to close the distance and mix clinches with short strikes. Askham, in turn, tried to free the Brazilian and stay at long range, throwing kicks and knees.

In the penultimate fight of the preliminary card, Alan Nuguette returned to the UFC after more than a year away due to injury. The Brazilian, who got his nickname for being a former shoeshine boy, tried to take down Mairbek Taisumov, but ended up being rebuffed every time. Without any major alternatives, Nuguette was left to fight on his feet, which he tried to do using rotating, but ineffective, blows.
In the second round, Taisumov seemed connected to the Brazilian's strategy. Nuguette tried to take the takedown carelessly, and the Russian defended and counterattacked with a kick to the head. Nuguette fell groggily, and it was up to Taisumov to end the fight with more strikes on the ground.
This was Nuguette's first defeat in his professional MMA career, compared to 12 victories. Taisumov won his third victory in a row.
