Bellator announces light heavyweight tournament and Tito Ortiz in title fight

Mixed MMA and kickboxing event will have a one-night mini-GP, with the debut of former UFC fighter Phil Davis

Bellator provided more details on the mega event that will take place on September 19th, in San Jose, California (USA). In addition to having a hybrid format, with MMA and kickboxing fights, the attraction will have two other highlights: a light heavyweight tournament and the veteran Tito Ortiz competing for a belt.

In the main fight of the attraction, Ortiz will challenge undefeated Englishman Liam McGeary for the 93 kg belt. The former UFC champion is coming off two wins in Bellator, over Alexander Shlemenko and Stephan bonnar. McGeary will make his first title defense, as he defeated Emanuel Newton to win the belt in his last fight.

But what really draws attention is the mini-GP, which will feature four fighters and will have its semi-finals and final on the same day. Participants will be Phil Davis, former UFC fighter who will make his Bellator debut, former champions Emanuel Newton and King mo, as well as Linton Vassell. The fight match has not yet been announced. In the semifinals, the fights will have two rounds of five minutes, with the decision having three rounds, also of five minutes.

Bellator Dynamite, as it was called, will also feature three kickboxing fights, with athletes from the Glory striking organization. So far, only the participation of Joe Schilling and Paul Daley have been announced.
