Fabricio Werdum seems to have a special taste for contradicting predictions and shocking MMA fans around the world. Author of the unlikely end to the legendary Russian's almost decade-long undefeated streak Fedor Emelianenko in 2010, Werdum surprised again this Saturday (13), with the submission over Cain Velazquez at UFC 188 to win the heavyweight belt, and admitted that he feels motivated when he enters the octagon as an underdog.

“When I'm the underdog, I'm even more motivated,” said the Brazilian during the press conference after the event, in Mexico City (Mexico). Furthermore, Werdum also anticipated Velasquez's movements before putting an end to the duel between them. “I visualized this moment (of the finish) several times. I knew Velasquez would come to the single leg or double leg and I took advantage of that”, he revealed.

Without openly declaring his preference for his first title defense, Werdum assured that, even at 37 years old, he is at the peak of his professional career. “This moment today (both the fight and winning the title) is the best moment of my life”, said “Vai Cavalo”, who also drew laughter from those present when he insisted that President Dana White pay for his vacation with his family in Cancún, which begin soon.

Fabricio Werdum has a professional record of 20 wins, five losses and one draw. Undefeated since debuting in the Octagon, Werdum has won six in a row, the best streak among athletes in the 120 kg category. With the belt, the gaucho became only the second Brazilian to win the linear heavyweight belt, after Junior Gypsy.
