Cain Velazquez He is, without a doubt, one of the most reserved and spotlight-averse champions in Ultimate. For this reason, the North American's stance in accepting the provocations of Fabricio Werdum and create a tense atmosphere for the title fight between them at UFC 188. However, with his personality completely opposite to that of his rival, the Brazilian managed to ease some of the apprehension between them and even got a rare smile from Velasquez when they faced each other, this Thursday (11).

The moment happened during the Media Day of UFC 188 (day reserved for press work), when, after being interviewed, Werdum and Velasquez finally came face to face. At first, the tension remained, but soon “Vai Cavalo” began to make jokes, like his traditional grimace “smiley face”, and finally, it was possible to see Velasquez smile alongside his opponent.
In front of the microphones, however, Werdum adopted a more serious tone and, despite praising his rival's qualities, pointed out some flaws in the linear champion's game. “Everyone knows that Velasquez has good boxing, great wrestling… that he puts pressure on his opponents all the time. But he doesn't have jiu-jitsu. I want to see you with your back on the floor. I'm going to prove to the world that I can be champion on Saturday night. I’m going to take this belt to Brazil,” he said.
Werdum and Velasquez duel for the definitive belt in the heavyweight category this Saturday (13), in the main fight of UFC 188. Before that, however, the two, like the other athletes on the Mexican card, have an appointment with the scales, at official weigh-in of the event, which SUPER LUTAS broadcasts live this Friday (12), from 20 am (Brasilia time).
