Ryan bader was certain that he would be the first challenger of Daniel Cormier for the UFC light heavyweight belt. The TUF 8 champion, with four consecutive victories, was scheduled to face “DC” in June, but the confusion that culminated in the stripping of the title Jon Jones changed the plans. After Cormier became champion, the UFC announced that Alexander Gustafson will be your next opponent.

Bader did not hide his disappointment at being passed over in the title fight, and stated that he could give Cormier a more difficult fight than Gustafsson should. “I'm not going to lie. It sucks. I thought my game matched Cormier's well and that I could give him problems that others couldn't. I think he can get there and beat Gus and use his wrestling. I definitely think I'm more dangerous, for sure. Gus is a great fighter, he's incredible. But he simply doesn’t deserve to fight for the belt after losing like that”, said Bader, in an interview with the podcast “The MMA Hour”, referring to the Swede’s defeat in January, to Anthony Johnson.
However, the American said that he will not be discouraged by the setback and that he will show, in the Octagon, that he is worthy of fighting for the title. “We were supposed to have already fought. I was good enough to face him back then, so why not now? That's how I see things. You never know, but my team and I thought we would have the fight. It's disappointing, but I'm not going to sit around and cry. I have to go out there and do more,” he added.
