Thiago Jambo wins 'friends fight' at WSOF 27

Brazilian, who agreed to face his friend Matt Baker at the last minute, won his 18th career victory

Thiago-JamboThiago Jambo achieved an unusual victory on Friday night (05), in Edmonton, Canada. The Brazilian, who was on Canadian soil to help Matt Baker in his fight against Marcus Hicks at World Series of Fighting (WSOF) 21, agreed to replace his teammate's rival at short notice and hold a friendly fight. Hicks had trouble making weight and it was Baker who suggested that the Brazilian face him, as they both needed the purse money.

The fight between the friends started off timidly, with the athletes showing some discomfort in facing a colleague. The Canadian tried to close the distance in search of the takedown and work on the ground, while the Brazilian kept the distance with kicks and defended Baker's attacks well. Thiago even tried a flying knee, which didn't land, but was impressive. Jambo also ended the partial with a fall.

In the second round, the strategies seemed the same. Baker looking for the takedown and Jambo responding in the standing fight. In an unintentional blow, the Canadian landed a knee in the Brazilian's genital region. After the recovery time, Thiago returned to the fight, connecting punches and kicks to the waistline, while Baker threw a greater volume of strikes, but almost all of them empty.

In the final seconds, the Canadian went up and connected several punches on Jambo, who was pressed against the bars. However, during one of these blows, Baker injured his hand and informed the referee that he was giving up the fight.

With the victory, Jambo makes it 18th in his career, his first in WSOF. He also has four defeats.
